Öryggismiðstöðin, also known as Security Center, was founded in 1995 and is based in the Icelandic city of Kopavogur. The company provides a range of security system, mobile and static security, and cash-in-transit services, as well as personal security solutions including VIP protection for international stars such as Tom Cruise, Ben Stiller, Justin Timberlake and Sting.
Öryggismiðstöðin employs around 200 people and operates a control centre that is connected to around 12,000 security systems and responds to an average of 28,000 calls per month. It was already using a guard management tool but this system no longer met the needs of the business in terms of functionality and ease-of-use. The company wanted a solution that would enhance the service provided to customers, while supporting the growth of the business moving forward.
Öryggismiðstöðin undertook a detailed review of the marketplace and having received a demonstration of SmartTask at an international trade show took the decision to use the advanced employee scheduling and mobile workforce management solution across its workforce. The system has been adopted primarily as a management tool to provide customers with the highest levels of service, protection and peace of mind.
The SmartTask captures integrated proof of time and attendance to monitor the status of static and mobile security teams. Using a simple smartphone application, mobile patrols and site based officers can record shifts, patrols and checkpoints attended, while those without smartphones can book on/off shifts and check calls via telephone and a secure PIN code. Meanwhile, the SmartTask mobile app allows officers to complete electronic forms, raise alerts and submit incident reports, as well as providing access to supporting information and special instructions.
The live view for control room operations provides an interactive dashboard to allow companies to monitor the delivery of contracted work and take corrective action to avoid any non-compliance of service. The at-a-glance visibility, with real-time updates and automatic refresh, enables office-based controllers to track the attendance, status and safety of static and mobile personnel, so they can respond quickly to any operational issues, security alerts and lone worker alarms.
MAN Commercial Protection selected Skillweb’s SmartTask, suitable for android smartphones, following a successful trial which helped deliver service improvements through greater workforce visibility and control. During the pilot the mobile application proved to be a highly simple, flexible and user friendly solution that provided access to real-time and historical data to provide complete transparency of all guards operating remotely.
Using strategically-located NFC tags (the same technology used for contactless payment and electronic ticket smartcards such as Oyster) and QR codes, guards have to simply swipe over their mobile device over each unique tag to effectively log time, GPS location and activity onsite. This has enabled office-based controllers and customers to monitor the status of guards and confirm the completion of scheduled visits and rounds via a web-based portal. MAN Commercial Protection also uses SmartTask to generate working time and customer reports by operative or location.
